Hi everyone! Some good news on the first day of the exam period.
The College has confirmed that it will issue retro pay for nearly all current members on the next payday, Dec 15!
We know this retro pay from a cost-of-living increase is still coming later than it should, but we fought hard to make sure the Employer learned that delaying retro pay until 2024 was not acceptable.
All current (continuing and term) faculty who were employed on the date of ratification (Sept 21, 2023), or who are owed retro because they began working after ratification but before the pay scales were updated (Oct 14, 2023), will receive retro pay this Friday, Dec 15. Unfortunately, this means that term faculty not employed during this period (mostly those who had to apply for retro pay using the online form) will have to wait to receive it. That’s not fair, and we’ll make sure the Employer hears it.
There is a small exception for members who were on maternity or parental leave, because the Employer claims they need to examine each on a case-by-case basis. We are following up on how many members this entails and trying to get an updated timeline. If you think this applies to you, we urge you to get in touch with the Union (ac.ytlucafnusomac@gniniagrab).
We are also following up on a timeline for term faculty not employed at ratification. (And we won’t drop our grievance until we’re satisfied the Employer has fulfilled its commitment).
For more information on the new Collective Agreement and why you are receiving retroactive pay, check the CCFA website.
We will be running a number of “Check Your Cheque” workshops in the new year to help everyone make sure they received every cent of the Cost-of-Living increase we negotiated that they are entitled to. Make sure to keep your eye out for them!
Warmly,
Michael
