The Alternate Transportation Program benefit is part of the CCFA’s new 2022-2025 Collective Agreement. Read about all the changes here or check out our Collective Agreement FAQ.
In order to reduce Camosun’s collective carbon footprint, the CCFA negotiated a new Alternative Transportation Program benefit that allows faculty members who do not opt-in to their paid parking privileges on campus to receive BC Transit ProPass for the Victoria Regional Transit System. Alternatively, if you accept a limited Flex Parking Pass, which allows members to park on campus for 10 working days per month, you are eligible for a 50% subsidy on an annual bus pass.
Once you choose which ProPass subsidy, if any, works best for you, Payroll will send you a code that you can assign to an UMO Tap Card (available for pickup in the Paul Building, Lansdowne Campus, Room 200H or for free at any BC Transit Vendor) or the UMO Mobility App for your smartphone.
We are very excited about this new climate-friendly program and we encourage all members who do not need to drive to work to take advantage of it!
Option 1: Accept an annual ProPass
- If you have not registered for a Camosun parking permit, you are automatically eligible for the ProPass. If you have already registered for parking but wish to receive a bus pass, email ac.nusomac@noitom-mac to opt out of your parking privileges.
- Complete the ProPass Enrollment Form (pdf) and email the ProPass Application to ac.nusomac@stifeneb. There is no need to sign the form.
- Complete a one-time 100% subsidy application form to register for the Alternative Transportation Program full benefit.
- A new benefit code called CCFA Alternative Program will appear on your pay stub. The $72.96 taxable benefit will be credited monthly when the benefit deductions are processed.
Option 2: Accept a Flex Parking Pass and a 50% subsidy on a ProPass
- Navigate to parking on the employee Intranet and register for the “CCFA Alternative Transportation Program Flex Permit.” This is a taxable benefit that will allow you to park on campus for 10 working days per month.
- Complete the following ProPass Enrollment Form (pdf) and email the ProPass Application to ac.nusomac@stifeneb. There is no need to sign the form.
- Complete the 50% subsidy application form to register for the Alternative Transportation Program half benefit.
- A new benefit code called CCFA Flex Pass will appear on your pay stub. The $36.48 taxable benefit will be credited monthly when the benefit deductions are processed.
- Parking permits will be sent by intercampus mail.
Option 3: Accept a Flex Parking Pass with no ProPass subsidy
- Navigate to parking on the employee Intranet and register for the “CCFA Alternative Transportation Program Flex Permit.” This is a taxable benefit that will allow you to park on campus for 10 working days per month.
- There is no need to register for a ProPass transit subsidy in order to receive a Flex Parking Pass. Your Flex Parking Pass will be distributed by intercampus mail.
Option 4: No Parking Pass, No ProPass
- Do nothing! (Yes, that’s it!). You won’t be charged for either taxable benefit or see a ProPass deducted.
Please note that the Alternate Transportation Program is funded to a maximum of $80,000 annually and annual expenses cannot exceed this amount. Under the Program, an option, once chosen, cannot be changed until the next annual parking registration year. Unfortunately, this program is currently only available for Continuing Faculty. If you are a Term Faculty member and wish you had access to this program, please email ac.ytlucafnusomac@afcc and tell us why!
*The ATP replaces the now-defunct Alternative Transportation Dividend Program, LOA 7 in the 2019-2022 Collective Agreement.

I have two questions about the new Parking Options.
1- About Option 3 – Flex Pass and no ProPass: The other two options clarified the specific taxable benefit amount, and this one does not. What is that amount?
2 – If I have not registered for parking, do not want parking, and also do not want a ProPass, do I need to do anything at all?
Thanks

Thank you for the questions Kristine!
As of Oct 2023, the taxable benefit amount for the full Parking permit entitlement is $69.33. The taxable benefit for the flex pass is half that, or $34.67. .
And you are correct: if you do not want parking or a ProPass, do nothing!

I have a question regarding the parking benefit. If I do not want an annual parking pass at all or any subsidy for using transit, as I will be either riding my bike to work or being dropped off at work, how do I ensure that payroll/benefits will know not to charge me for the parking benefit?
Thanks

Hi Ian, if you do not want a parking pass OR a bus pas, you do nothing! You won’t be charged or deducted. As a fellow bike rider, I might suggest taking advantage of the bus pass anyway though. It’s free, it’s easy, and it does come in handy.
