CAUT Organizing School 101

December 15, 2023 by Lynelle Yutani Leave a Comment

WE WANT YOU! To go to Organizing School 101– this is a great, FREE course being offered in conjunction with the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) as part of our FPSE affiliation.

This is an ideal course to learn how & why ongoing organizing with our members is critical for successful collective bargaining as well as promoting diversity equity, and inclusion, collegial governance, academic freedom, and other social justice causes. (Remember, we’re back to the bargaining table in just about a year from now in Winter of 2025 – and it’s going to take all our efforts together to keep making gains!)

Organizing School 101 —January 15 – 22, 2024 Webinar Schedule
Webinar I Monday January 15, 2024 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Webinar II Monday January 22, 2024 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Webinar III Monday January 29, 2024 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Webinar IV Friday February 2, 2024 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

During this 5-week course you will:

  • Diagnose your association’s organizing health;
  • Identify organic leaders within your association;
  • Practice the 5 steps of one-on-one conversations;
  • Strategize on how to move your members up the ladder of engagement;
  • Refine your association’s internal, two-way communication strategies;
  • Create a campaign and an organizing plan; and
  • Consolidate your learning for the course.

As part of our affiliation with FPSE, they provide registration for 19 FPSE locals (CCFA is Local 12) and submits a final registration list to CAUT.

To register, please complete the online registration form below by 4:00 PM on Thursday January 4, 2024 (No registrations can be accepted after this point).

Registration Form

Registration confirmation will be sent via email from CAUT by January 15, 2024, and include details for accessing the Canvas Learning Management System and Zoom links for virtual webinars.

Invitations to register for the other upcoming spring courses will be coming to the blog soon shortly. It’s never to early to begin identifying the members at your local who you would like to receive this upcoming training.

  • Grievance Handling Course – February 16, 2024
  • Labour Action for Equity Course – March 4 -8, 2024
  • Collective Bargaining Training – April 2 – 5, 2024

Organizing is one of the most important aspects of preparing for collective bargaining and ensuring that our Union is ready to stand in solidarity when negotiating for rights and improvements to our working conditions. CAUT courses are attended by faculty from Colleges, Institutes, and Universities all across Canada. You’ll meet others who are interested maintaining and expanding faculty’s role in Academic Governance! I hope I’ll see some of you there!
