Register Now for CAUT’s Collective Bargaining (March 6 – 10, 2023) – by 4 pm on Thursday, February 16, 2023

Greetings Members!

This is the first call for CAUT Collective Bargaining – which is another workshop being offered in conjunction with the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) through our FPSE affiliation. This is an ideal course for those new to bargaining or interested in learning more about what goes on at the bargaining table.  It is a great way to develop bargaining experience in case you’re interested in joining the Union for the next round of negotiations.  We haven’t even settled this contract and in less than two years, we’ll be back at the table again.  Please take advantage of this opportunity!

COLLECTIVE BARGAINING — March 6 – 10, 2023
DateTimeEvent Type
March 61 hour (self-guided)Welcome Module
March 6 – 10Self-guidedOnline Module
March 99:00 am – 12:00 pm PSTWebinar 1
March 109:00 am – 12:00 pm PSTWebinar 2

Our collective agreement outlines the rights of our members and the responsibilities of the administration. But negotiating an effective collective agreement requires preparation and practice. In this 1-week course, participants will explore:

  1. Bargaining terms and concepts;
  2. Your province’s legal framework;
  3. How to build relationships and communicate effectively with your members;
  4. Power Mapping;
  5. Developing a Bargaining Mandate;
  6. Preparing proposals and bargaining protocols; and
  7. Managing the table and staying organized during bargaining – whether in-person or online.

I’ve taken this course, and the webinars include a surprisingly fun “mock negotiation” where you actually get to play out a bargaining scenario.   **Webinars will be conducted in English, if you prefer French, please let me know as there is a different set of dates and registration form.

As part of our affiliation agreement with FPSE undertakes registration for our local (Camosun College is Local 12) and submits a final registration list to CAUT.

To register, please complete the online registration form below by 4:00 PM on February 16, 2023 (No registrations can be accepted after this point).

CAUT Collective Bargaining Registration Form

Registration confirmation will be sent via email from CAUT by March 6, 2023 and include details for accessing the Canvas Learning Management System and Zoom links for virtual webinars.

Invitations to register for the other upcoming spring courses will come to you shortly.  If you’ve ever been interested in Contract Maintenance (often called Stewarding) and how we support faculty’s rights, you might enjoy the Grievance Handling or Stewarding Workshops.

  1. CAUT Grievance Handling – March 6 – 10, 2023
  2. FPSE Local Bargaining
  3. FPSE Stewarding
  4. FPSE Preparing for Job Action

We’re still collecting your feedback in our Communications Survey & always looking for Confluence Blog contributors!

The Camosun College Faculty Association serves it’s members while residing on the traditional and unceded territories of the Lkwungen (Esquimalt and Songhees) and W̱SÁNEĆ (Pauquachin, Tsartlip, Tsawout, Tseycum) peoples. We express our profound gratitude to our traditional hosts’ welcome and tolerance of our uninvited presence while we strive to dismantle our colonial, patriarchal, and racist cultural biases.
