2026 Winter GM Highlights

February 13, 2026 by Lynelle Yutani Leave a Comment

Na'tsa'maht - Working Together as One: Artist Butch Dick

Couldn’t join us for the Winter General Meeting on February 12, 2026?

Hi Members! Despite eduroam and the entire WiFi network being down at Lansdowne on Thursday, it was another successful hybrid General Meeting! But if you missed it, no problem! Here’s a recap of the key moments, plus a few reminders to keep on your radar. We’ve also received a few questions from members about why we didn’t hold the Winter General Meeting during Reading Week, so everyone could attend. And we did consider that; however, we discovered that it was impossible to pick a time when a department, program, committee, or school wasn’t already planning to meet.

Meeting Business & Reports

President’s Report – Lynelle Yutani

  • CCFA continues to advocate and lobby through CAUT and FPSE. We also participate in solidarity meetings with Campus Solidarity, Island Solidarity, and Victoria Labour Council, strengthening union connections and collaboration across institutions.
  • We honoured the passing of our colleagues, Dr. Laura Gover and Kurt Krueger. Please read on to learn more about the Dr. Laura Gover’s Memorial Award, developed by the School of Business and Marketing & HR Leadership Department.
  • Notice of Spring Ed Co Elections – 3 faculty seats, 4 student seats. The nomination period will be from March 2 (9:00 am) to March 15 (11:30 pm).
  • Pub Nights are back, and we’ve scheduled them on rotating nights and locations! Check your Outlook for the invites and RSVP to join in. But due to popular demand, we’ve also added Tea Times to our list of regular ways we connect with our members! Catch us at the next one on your campus!
  • Our AGM is just around the corner. If you’re interested in serving on our Nominations Committee, please contact our staff!

Notice of FPSE AGM, Webinar & International Solidarity Fund Applications

  • The FPSE AGM will be held May 11–14, 2024, at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond, BC. CCFA delegate entitlement is usually 9–10 members.
  • The FPSE webinar, “Paying the price for marketization: The international student ‘crash’ and post-secondary education in BC,” explores trends and challenges in BC post-secondary education and will be on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Register by Clicking Here
  • Applications for the International Solidarity Fund are open until Monday, March 9, 2026, at 11:59 pm PST. The fund supports initiatives that promote global labour solidarity. Apply Here: 2026 International Solidarity Fund Proposals Application

Professional Development Report – Martha McAlister, Chair

  • PD Fiscal Year-End Reminders & Updates: The end of the fiscal year is quickly approaching! Please keep the following important dates in mind:
    • New applications for the 2025/26 fiscal year must be submitted by March 12.
    • All outstanding receipts for the 2025/26 fiscal year must be submitted before March 31.
  • Thank you to everyone who applied this year — we received 20 applications for long-term funding!
  • We also have a helpful guideline update: approval from your chair or dean is no longer required for memberships, subscriptions, or books.
  • In addition, the new Microsoft PowerApps online application process has been approved by the PD Committee, and a soft launch will be rolling out soon. Stay tuned for more details!
  • Questions? Please reach out to Martha or the PD Committee at ac.nusomac@DP-AFCC

Contract Negotiation Committee (CNC) Report – Michael Stewart, Chair

  • Bargaining timelines were explained and reviewed. Our Bad Faith Bargaining Complaint Hearing is scheduled for February 23 & 24.
  • The state of provincial bargaining was discussed; no official mandates have been published. Public service unions are not willing to settle for less than what BCGEU secured.
  • At the same time, we are proud that member engagement has remained strong, with a clear demonstration of solidarity and readiness to support next steps if needed. As we move forward, our focus remains on achieving a fair contract, and we will share further updates as developments continue.

Contract Management Committee (CMC) Report – Peter Ove, Chair

  • Rumours of “reductions” are circulating, and we’ve been here before. We need your help to triangulate this information so we can coordinate our best response. Please contact us if you’ve heard this.
  • The Contract Management Committee has been actively supporting members by overseeing the administration of the collective agreement and addressing emerging concerns. They review contract-related questions, clarify language, and ensure consistent application of policies across departments. The committee monitors compliance with timelines and requirements, provides advice on workload matters, and responds to member inquiries, maintaining transparency, fairness, and strong advocacy throughout the institution.
  • There are 16 grievances at the Arbitration step and 13 filed grievances prior to arbitration. Informal issues continue on topics like “Failure to Replace” continuing work, pay issues (always check your cheque!), workload, accommodation, and protecting bargaining unit work.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Budget actuals presented, and we have received the first draft of our annual audited financial statement. Congratulations to our staff on receiving this the earliest ever!
  • CCFA has moved forward with members’ directive to use more Socially Responsible Investment strategies, and enrolled in the Municipal Pension Plan for our employees.

Committees & Appointees

  • New committee members were elected, and new FPSE representatives were confirmed.

Congratulations to our Door Prize Winners!
