More Listserv Hijinks – Update!

Don’t know what you’ve got until it is gone… (No Goodbyes, I promise!)

Hi Members!

I know many of you just received a “Goodbye” message from our listserv.  DO NOT PANIC! We are working on it, and you’ll continue to get our messages manually delivered until we figure it out.

I don’t know if you remember, but this seems to happen every start of term 🙄- and is one of the reasons we’ve been working hard to ensure that we can always reach you! 

If you haven’t already, please fill out your personal contact information (not your Camosun email) in the CCFA Member Details Form, and we will be testing this notification network later this semester.

Member Details Form Please supply a non-Camosun email and phone number. The purpose of collecting this information is to ensure that the Union can communicate with you in the event that it is inadvisable or impossible to reach you through the College’s email system. The collection of this information is expressly for union business and subject to the CCFA Privacy Policy.

Our employer has already let us know that they’ll be eliminating the listserv at some point in the future due to “rising costs” of maintaining this legacy system.  We don’t know what they’ll replace it with, yet, but if you want to be in the know for all things Union, the best place is on our Discord server! Haven’t joined, yet? Send me your personal email address and I’ll send you an invite.

Not sure we will ever figure out how this keeps happening, but all of the outcries about it happening sure let me know that you read and value the info we share! 💜

There’s a barracuda in these waters!

So… the college listserv is at the “end-of-life” as a product, and that’s causing some problems. We’re told that MS Groups will be the replacement, but not before the current license expired… last week. And now we know why the listserv was unsubscribed and subsequently failed to deliver. However, those members who subscribed independently using the “opt-in” form on our website did get our most recent newsletter… And, they were the only ones who did! We have now extracted the complete college email list, uploaded it to our site, and are re-sending the message! The name of the “account/product” responsible is ac.nusomac@aducarrab, and in my investigations, it was the email account responsible for unsubscribing the entire listserv.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you’re now receiving TWO copies to your Camosun College email account, it’s because you’ve independently subscribed using your employee email as well as received it through our listserv. Just email ac.ytlucafnusomac@afcc and we will correct the duplication! However, I DO recommend that you subscribe using a personal email account so you’ll get all our news even when you’re on vacation or away. I promise, we won’t spam you!
