Once again, our members have put forward thoughtful nominations for the CCFA Annual Charitable Donations. Every year, the Executive faces the challenge of dividing limited funds among many worthy causes, and once again, it is a privilege to share the organizations chosen for 2025.
This year’s requests carried a clear theme: standing beside students, families, and educators in moments of challenge, and making sure voices of inclusion and equity are heard.

Puja Gupta Nominated the Island Kids Cancer Association (IKCA)
Puja reminded us that the journey through cancer treatment can place children’s education at risk. Hospital stays, exhausting treatments, and the strain on families often make it impossible to keep up with schoolwork without help.
The Island Kids Cancer Association has been expanding its support for families on Vancouver Island by offering tutoring and educational tools for children undergoing treatment. With CCFA’s donation, IKCA will be able to provide tutoring, laptops, and culturally responsive resources to ensure children do not lose out on their education while they fight for their health.
In her nomination, Puja stated, “A donation to IKCA is a message to children and families that their education, their dreams, and their futures still matter.”

Jeanne Iribarne and Kari Jones Nominated Local Author Robin Stevenson and Orca Books as a Gesture of Solidarity Against Intolerance
Jeanne Iribarne and Kari Jones proposed that we purchase and donate children’s books by local author Robin Stevenson, published by Victoria-based Orca Book Publishers.
Stevenson’s titles, many of which celebrate diversity, gender inclusion, and family, have been targeted in a lawsuit in the United States, leading to plummeting sales and even threats directed toward both author and publisher. By purchasing books and donating them to the Camosun library (for the ECE program and creative writing classes), to the Greater Victoria Public Library and other regional libraries, the CCFA makes a public statement: we stand with educators, writers, and publishers who promote inclusive stories and academic freedom.
This small gesture of solidarity sends a powerful message to our students, colleagues, and community. Education must include all voices.

The CCFA Executive Nominated the Camosun College Student Society Food Bank
Finally, your Executive felt it was important to continue supporting our own students directly by contributing to the Camosun College Student Society (CCSS) Food Bank. With food insecurity still affecting many students, our donation helps provide non-perishable food items at both campuses and supports the annual holiday hamper program for students in need.
Thank you!
We would like to thank the members who submitted nominations this year for bringing these meaningful causes to our attention. Your ideas remind us that even modest donations can have a ripple effect. Together, we can continue to make a difference by supporting students’ education, standing up for equity, and meeting basic needs.
