In the midst of all the competing crises we are facing, we can’t allow ourselves to miss celebrating the bright moments, like when all our seats on Ed Co are filled! The Spring 2026 election process for faculty and student representation on Education Council and the Board of Governors is now complete. There were three faculty positions available for Education Council, and three faculty nominations were received!
Congratulations on being Acclaimed
- Johana Hurtubise, Athletic & Exercise Therapy (HSHS)
- Jeanne Puritch, Community Family Child Studies (HSHS)
- Michael Liu, Computer Science, (STEM)
In fact, all this year’s nominees were acclaimed, and no voting was required. There were four student positions available for Education Council, and three student nominations were received. Dorothy Stirling, Devon Daniels, and Terence Baluyut were acclaimed. The remaining student vacancy on Educational Council will be filled during a by-election in the fall.
Congratulations to all the Faculty & Students who ran for Ed Co! Your willingness to step forward and serve in these roles is deeply appreciated. Education Council plays a vital part in safeguarding academic quality, protecting the integrity of our programs, and ensuring that decisions about curriculum and students are guided by those who are actually teaching and learning.
Participating in Academic Governance is not always easy work. It requires careful reading, thoughtful questions, and a commitment to representing both your colleagues, peers, and the broader academic community. At a time when institutions are navigating significant financial challenges amid the looming prospect of sectoral change, your participation helps ensure that academic governance remains thoughtful, transparent, and remains true to the values of public post-secondary education.
In this election, two student positions were available on the Board of Governors. One nomination was received, and Jewel Lavan is acclaimed. The student vacancies on both Board of Governors and Educational Council will be filled during a by-election in the fall.
Thank you for taking on this responsibility. Your community is grateful for your time, your judgment, and your willingness to serve.
