🍪 The Great Festivus Cookie Contest: Rules & Regulations🍪

November 12, 2025 by CCFAASC Leave a Comment

Think your baking skills could win you the title of Bestus Festivus Cookie? Here’s everything you need to know before you enter your masterpiece.

A Sweet Showdown for a Great Cause!

Do you love to show off your holiday baking skills and think your cookies are unbeatable? Prove it! Enter the Festivus Collectivus Cookie Contest and share your best batch in the spirit of solidarity and giving. If you win, you’ll have bragging rights all year long! Here are some answers to a few frequently asked questions we’ve received:

Is there a cost to enter the contest or attend the Festivus Collectivus?

No, all BCGEU, CCFA, and CUPE (both 1004 & 2081) are invited to participate and attend free of charge!

I have specific dietary needs; what can I eat at the Festivus?

We’ve put together an accessible snack menu, in addition to the traditional omnivore offerings; there will be vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and nut-free choices. However, planning and preparation require accurate attendee numbers. So please accept the invite if you’re going to come! Everything will have ingredient labels. However, if you choose to serve as a judge for the cookie contest, we cannot guarantee that there will be no cross-contamination among the entries.

Speaking of the Cookie Contest, can I enter something else besides cookies?

YES, you can bring any of your best holiday baking to share. We recommend you plan for 100 bite-sized samples of your treat; you can bake one large item and chop it up, or serve 100 small items, it is up to you. We want everyone who wants to participate to feel welcome – and bring us all the yummy things to judge!

👩‍🍳 Contest Details

🚨 Entry Deadline: December 12, 2025
🍪 Treats Drop-Off: Between 3:30–4:30 PM on December 16, 2025
📍 Location: Sherri Bell Hall, Lansdowne Campus

🎟️ How Judging Works

All entries will be judged by our Festivus attendees—your peers, colleagues, and fellow cookie (baking) connoisseurs.

  1. Everyone attending can become a judge by purchasing voting tickets to taste and vote for their favourite cookies. Tickets can be paid for with cash or e-transfer using a QR Code. Cash is easier if you have it handy.
  2. Cookies will be displayed and judged during the Festivus Collectivus on December 16th at the Sherri Bell Hall!
  3. You get 10 tickets for $5, and each ticket = one vote — and you can buy as many tickets as you like!
  4. Votes will be cast by placing tickets in the collection bag of your favourite baker(s). At the end of the night, the baker with the most votes wins the title of Festivus Collectivus Cookie Champion! 🏆🍪

We will have a sign-in & consent sheet for all of our judges when you purchase your tickets.

📜 Cookie Contest Rules

By entering the contest, bakers acknowledge and agree to the following:

  1. Homemade Baked Goods Only
All “cookies” submitted must be homemade by the participant. They are not part of the catered event food. But, we’re prepared to be very flexible on what counts as a cookie, so bring your best holiday baking!
  2. Ingredient List Required
Each baker must provide a clear ingredient list for their cookie entry. While ingredients are listed, we cannot guarantee that home preparation conditions are allergen-free.
  3. Responsibility & Transparency
Participants judging the cookie contest understand that ingredient lists will be available to attendees. Judges are to review them as needed, but will take responsibility for their own sample choices.
  4. Liability Waiver
Bakers accept the inherent risks involved in preparing homemade baked goods and agree not to hold event organizers, unions, or the venue responsible for any issues arising from the preparation or submission of their contest entry. Judges accept the inherent risks involved in consuming homemade baked goods and agree not to hold event organizers, unions, or the venue responsible for any issues arising from the consumption of contest submissions.

🍪 Ready to Enter?

Show off your baking brilliance and claim the glory: click here to enter the cookie contest!

  1. Register in advance to reserve your spot early — anyone from BCGEU, CCFA, or CUPE can enter, but space may be limited!
  2. Provide a complete ingredient list with your entry (for allergy and dietary concerns).
  3. Bring enough cookies (or any tasty treat we’re going to be very flexible about what we accept as a “cookie”) for at least 100 bite-sized samples to share with our judges (that’s everyone attending the Festivus Collectivus!).
  4. Pro Tip: If you’re baking large cookies, please cut them into bite-sized pieces. We’ll provide mini-muffin cups for everyone to use for safe, sanitary sharing.

💖 Where the Money Goes

All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Camosun College Student Society Holiday Hamper Fund, helping students and their families enjoy a brighter holiday season.

👉 Didn’t get an invite?

No problem — Festivus is for the rest of us! If you are a member of BCGEU, CCFA, or CUPE you could just show up and join the celebration. Everyone’s welcome! But it would help us out a bunch if you would email ac.ytlucafnusomac@afcc to let us know you’re coming for our food purchase estimates. We’ll even send you an Outlook calendar invite so you get any updates and reminders!
