Request for information on behalf of the CCFA Contract Management Committee

Dear Colleagues,

The Contract Management Committee has a few pieces of news for you as well as a query.

  1. In January, we settled a long-standing grievance about professional development (PD) taken during the teaching semester.  Brief PD leaves, to attend discipline conferences for example, cannot always be scheduled during our Scheduled Development time. As you know, the Collective Agreement contemplates such PD (see clause 10.01 (b) (iii)).  So, because of this recent settlement, the School of Business can no longer require that faculty members take unpaid leave or vacation for such approved PD activities during the teaching semester.  We would like to thank all those who contributed information that helped to settle this grievance, as well as the grievor herself, who persisted over several years and who did so to improve all our working lives. We still have a long way to go on this issue, but we are one step further ahead.
  2. Also in this settlement, we have committed to working with administration to establish reasonable guidelines for such PD activities taken outside of Scheduled Development time. These discussions will happen at Labour Management Council (LMC), after bargaining is completed.  If you have suggestions for our discussions, kindly contact any member of the Contract Management Committee.
  3. On another subject, thank you for letting us know about your extreme parking difficulties at the Interurban campus.  We have raised these difficulties with administration, but so far with little result.  So, we are contemplating action under the grievance process–the right to parking near to the workplace is guaranteed by our collective agreement. For that we need empirical data.  If you find yourself circling the campus looking for parking, kindly make note of the time and date, as well as the length of delay and ultimate distance from your work. Please send us this data:  ac.ytlucafnusomac@riahccmc  and spread the word to your colleagues to do the same. And please continue to send us this data until the parking issues are resolved (this could take a while).

In solidarity,

Jeanne
