CAUT Grievance Handling Workshop

January 19, 2024 by Lynelle Yutani Leave a Comment

This is another callout for CAUT Grievance Handling– which is being offered in conjunction with the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT). CCFA Members, through our membership in the Federation of Post Secondary Educators (FPSE), are eligible to enroll for this free training! This is an ideal course where you’ll learn a little bit about the grievance and dispute resolution process. Learning more about how to defend and protect your rights is critical for successful collective bargaining as well as promoting diversity equity, and inclusion, collegial governance, academic freedom, and other social justice causes!

Grievance Handling — February 12-16, 2024
Together with colleagues from across Canada, participants will complete:
·         One online module – work at your own pace between February 12-16, 2024.
·         One 3-hour webinar – Friday February 16, 2024 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Learning about what it takes to file and win a grievance against the administration is a key function of Contract Management! This is also a great course for current and future stewards to take.

In this course, participants will:

·         Situate the right to grieve in a historical context.

·         Distinguish a grievance from a complaint.

·         Identify different types of grievances.

·         Explore the legislative and contractual framework underlying the grievance arbitration process.

·         Define the components of the grievance officer’s job.

·         Write a basic grievance and

·         Strategize on how to effectively negotiate a grievance settlement.

As part of our affiliation agreement with FPSE, they undertake registration for the 19 FPSE locals (CCFA is Local 12) and submits a final registration list to CAUT.

To register, please complete the online registration form below by 4:00 PM on Thursday February 1, 2024 (No registrations can be accepted after this point).

Registration Form

Registration confirmation will be sent via email from CAUT by February 12, 2024, and include details for accessing the Canvas Learning Management System and Zoom links for virtual webinars.

Invitations to register for the other upcoming spring courses will be coming to you shortly.
